ENVIRONMENT CLUB 2011-12
An anti fire cracker was organized in the school by the Environment club students to generate awareness against the harmful effects of burning crackers. A special assembly was organized where an appeal was made to say “NO TO FIRE CRACKERS”.
A special workshop was organized by the senior members of the environment club in the AV Room on “Celebrating Eco Friendly Festivals”
Class campaigning was conducted and the response for no to crackers was amazing. This was in fact visible when after Diwali the pollution levels showed declining trend.
30 Students of Shiksha Kendra participated in Inter School Drawing competition at Okhla Bird Sanctuary, on 1st October 2011, organised by ‘Nature Foundation’ celebrating the Biodiversity Week. Number of DPS Shiksha Kendra students also won cash prizes and books.
A trip was organised to meet the Delhi Chief Minister,Mrs Sheila Dixit, at her residence on 19th October 2011. Thirty students of Environment Club of Classes IX and X, along with the teacher, Mrs Darshan Sodhi had the opportunity to take a Nature trail at the CM’s residence. Students presented a potted plant and DPS Noida’s environment report to her and shared some environmental activities conducted in the school.
Environment Club of DPS Noida put up a huge stall during the Diwali Mela, at DPS Noida grounds, on 23rd October 2011.There were number of components in the stall, which was highly appreciated by Shri Ashok Chandra, Chairman DPS Society and the Principal, Mrs Kamini Bhasin.
A workshop on migratory birds was organised at Okhla Bird Sanctuary for Class VIII Shiksha Kendra , by NGO ‘Nature Foundation’, on 26 November 2011. Number of activities like painting competition, discussions on water hyacinth, migratory birds and bird house making were carried out with the children at the venue.
A workshop on Madhubani paintings was organised for the German students in the school Science Laboratory, on 12th October 2011. Students made beautiful paintings on recycled paper made in the school paper recycling plant.
NGO, ‘Nature Foundation’, conducted a workshop on Water Hyacinth at Okhla Bird Sanctuary on 11 October 2011 .Seven students of Class X G attended this workshop.
Inter DPS Environment Festival was organised at DPS Mathura road ,on 19th November 2011. Around 33 Delhi Public Schools all over India participated in the various events.
Chief guest Dr K.K.Agarwal, Padamshree , Shri Salman Khurshid,Hon’ble Minister for the Ministry of Law and Justice and Ministry of Minority Afffairs of the Govt. Of India and Shri Ashok Chandra , Chairman , DPS Society graced the occasion.

Discussion Forum: Sustainable Consumption of Natural Products leads to Sustainable
8 students accompanied by 3 teachers, Mrs Darshan Sodhi, Mrs Indu Chauhan and Mrs Sunita Rawat, participated in the activities. Under the project ‘Herbs and Spices’ ‘Stevia’ herb was exhibited. Dr K.K.Agarwal and Shri Salman Khurshid appreciated the useful ness of the plant and also suggested that Stevie should be grown in every household as it has antI diabetic properties.
The film on Ragpickers ‘My Unheard Voice’ by DPS Noida was adjudged best in the music category .Certificates and a prize money of Rs 1000 was awarded to the students.
Times NIE in association with Greater Valley School, Greater Noida organized a regional event-“ The Great Green Day-An Eco Driven Regional Inter School Competition” on 15th November 2011.DPS Noida won 2nd prize in Model Making-“Recycle and Reuse” under senior category. The team members were N.Elkhya, Ritika Ghosh and Nishtha of class X.
