Debating Club

Activities :

  • April 2010 – Group discussion conducted for the interested students of Class XII for the selection process for the membership to the debating Club.
  • May 2010 –Group discussion conducted for the interested students of Class XI for selection process for the membership to the Debating Club.
  • May 2010 –Inter Section English Debate was organized for classes IX and X. The topics were :
    • Reservation for women, a step backward not forward.
    • Media is more powerful than the government.
  • November 2010 – Inter Section Debate was organized for students of class XI. The topics were :
    • Indian Urban Youth – more show than substance.
    • Organized Religion has done more harm than good.
  • Inter Section Debate was organized for students of class XII. The topics were :
    • The law of Adultery in India should be abolished.
    • Naxalites have lost clear sight of their objectives.
  • On 14 Dec 2010, a training session was held by Meher legha (winner of last year’s Abhimanyu Bhattacharjee Annual Memorial Debate ) and Yuvraj Khanna for selection of students for the upcoming Abhimanyu Bhattacharjee Debate.
  • Abhimanyu Bhattacharjee Annual Memorial Debate was held on 18 Jan, 2011 where students from ten leading schools of Delhi and NCR competed for the coveted Trophy. The topics were :
    • Injustice, not Ideological fanaticism is the cause for global terrorism.
    • Media and ethics cannot co- exist.

Achievements :

  • Our team comprising Himanil Raina (XI), Bhavya Nandini (XI ) and Krithica Panicker (x) bagged the Rolling Trophy at the S. N. Ganju Memorial Debate 2010, held at Vishwa Bharati, Noida. Himanil Raina was declared the Best Speaker while Bhavya was awarded the Second Best Speaker Prize.
  • Himanil Raina was awraded the Best Interjector Award at the Inter DPS Debate at Faridabad in September 2010.
  • Our Debating team won the Preparatory Debate at the Debating Matters -3 at the BCL , New Delhi and reached the Regional Round. Participants were Himanil Raina, Mayank Goel, Amartya sharan, Udayvir Anand, Ritwik Malik and Sameera Rao.
  • DPS Noida also won the First Runners Up Trophy at the Annual Abhimanyu Bhattacharjee Memorial Debate – 2011.Himanil Raina also won the best Speaker Award at he same event.
